Below you will find information on membership in the Toronto Bruce Trail club (3,500 members) and its parent organization, the Bruce Trail Conservancy (9,100 members).

The annual fee to join The Bruce Trail Conservancy is $50.00 per family. This includes membership in one of the clubs that make up the Conservancy. Membership is for the 12 month period from the date on which you join. As a member, you will receive Footnotes, the club's quarterly newsletter outlining the hiking schedule for a three month period,  and including a variety of interesting articles and tips for hiking and other outdoor activities. You will also receive the Bruce Trail News, which is the Bruce Trail Conservancy's quarterly magazine.

There is at least one bus or car hike each day of the weekend, as well as skiing and snowshoeing in the winter program.

Car hikes are also offered in the mid week. All of our hike leaders undergo a hike leader training program before they are permitted to lead any of our organized activities.

Bus hikes take the group to the trail head and pick them up at the other end. Buses leave either from the York Mills subway station (south entrance) or from the Brewers Retail parking lot at the Islington subway station. You should carry your membership card with you at all times. It is important to come out well equipped for hiking; that is, with hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes, sun and insect lotion, a hat, lunch, and lots of water - 1 litre normally or 2 litres on hot days.

Hikes vary in length from about 10k to 50k.

Footnotes also has a number of "independent outings" listed which are generally weekend long and other extended trips outside Southern Ontario. These trips are organized by members but not officially approved by the club. This would include backpacking in Pennsylvania etc etc.

We also sometimes have Social and Slide evenings in the Fall, Winter and Spring which are listed in Footnotes.

In addition to Footnotes, you will also receive the Bruce Trail Magazine, reporting news from all 9 Bruce Trail clubs, information on what the BTC is doing to secure the Trail, and other interesting articles.

In addition to our excellent hiking program, membership in the provides you with volunteer opportunities: to be a trail maintenance volunteer; to join the Board of Directors; to become involved in escarpment preservation efforts; or various other activities. Remember - the Bruce Trail would not exist without the members of the Bruce Trail Conservancy.
